A dream come true....

One of the fantastic things about living in Singapore is the proximity to many travel destinations. Many conversations revolve around travel plans over the holidays: where to go, where to stay, what to do, sights, shopping, relaxing,  suggestions, recommendations and itineries are nutted out over coffees, lunches and wines.

No one stays on the island over holidays. In fact, people take every chance possible to escape the island. Phuket, Bangkok, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Boracay, Laos, Cambodia, India, Japan, Penang... The options are endless. But there was one place that I was most hoping I would get to see before I left. I wasn't confident that it would come to fruition, but in the back of my mind.... There was always this niggling idea that it might happen.

Then, I receive a cryptic clue:

It took about a millisecond to realise my lovely man was whisking me away to my dream destination: The Maldives!

Now, I will put it out there that we were going for a long weekend. The Maldives is not really a long weekend kind of destination. I had no idea what time we were flying or who we were flying with. I was joking to my girlfriends over coffee that we were going to the Maldives for 8 hours - I expected the plane journey to take 7 hours minimum with stopovers as most companies don't fly direct, then another hour on a boat to get to the resort. By the time we got there, had a swim and a cocktail, I was prepared to start the journey home.

Alas, it doesn't happen very often ;)  but I was wrong!

The plane was jam packed with travellers keen for some sun. As usual, we were located near the back of the plane. However, upon landing, many people decided this was the perfect  opportunity to start their holiday happy snaps, so we quickly bypassed all the posers getting photos with the plane. As we were about to head into the customs area, we noticed another plane had landed before us. We walked in and were puzzled to see everyone filling out forms: turns out the plane before us had run out of customs and quarantine forms, so we were quick to file into line and were through customs quite quickly - as we were waiting for our luggage, a quick look back and the lines were HUGE! We grabbed our bags, were greeted by a lovely man from our resort and it turns out we were the last ones to meet the boat........ This was a totally new travel experience for the Smiths!

A 4 hour direct flight with Singapore Airlines, a 20 minute boat ride and with the time difference, our flight left Singapore at 10am, and at lunchtime Maldives time, we had hit the sand and were swamped by this colour........................

Bliss!!

We checked in, climbed into our swimsuits, and hit the spa!

happy hour

We indulged in dinner at the overwater Teppanyaki restaurant....! Lobster and Steak teppanyaki? My paleo heart was happy!

The next day we went swimming and snorkelling in our backyard, and revisitted the spa...

And went dolphin hunting.

Waking up to this is my idea of heaven!

On Sunday, we packed up and headed back to Singapore vowing to return..... A long weekend was lovely but a couple more days would have been perfection!

Obligatory arm out selfie.

Thanks honey! xoxo

Sharing the Island

Long time no blog!
Can’t believe how long it has been, however, I have got some really cool things to share – namely because I had a couple of experiences where I got to share this island with my man…..
Firstly, let me start with our 3rd Anniversary…. I picked Tom up from the airport and we had a man waiting at the gate with our name on an iPad and he whisked us off into town to an area called Club St.
My man always brings me duty free goodies.... Considering he doesn't like Drunk Jodie, I am always PLEASANTLY surprised by his thoughtfulness!

My man and his Loot!

mmmmm sashimi, oysters and champagne....

Velvet and rose petals and art deco heaven!
Now, clearly Tom does not know me at all……….

We headed out for dinner across the road to Chinatown then decided to head back to Club St for cake. And yep, our coffee and cake cost more than our dinner of prawns, ribs, sautéed greens and scallops!
The next day we went to Flutes at the Fort for brunch – for some reason, all our favourite breakfast places have ‘Flute’ in the name….. After brunch, we went shopping for my anniversary present, a leather handbag that is large enough to fit my laptop in it but small enough that I don’t hit all the passengers in the aisle seats in the head with it as I go past… which I may or may not have been doing with my ‘you call THAT THING carry on?’ bag. ps handbag = amazing! And I am never using other than for travel as it is too beautiful and I am so awesome at breaking things!
Then, being the AWESOME wife I am, as part of his Birthday / Anniversary present, I got tickets to The Dark Knight Rises (I know I know EXACTLY what you are thinking – he takes me to an amazing hotel, I take him to the movies, he gets me a leather handbag for our 3rd anniversary, I get him a leather bound notebook he is SUCH a lucky guy!). He is actually a massive fan of action / superhero movies, so I did actually receive SOME brownie points for organising this….. I hope??!
3rd Anniversary = Leather.
Off to dinner then the next morning we had a quick breakfast at the hotel and he had to fly out…. L

A couple of weeks ago, he was back in Singapore for a weekend. Saturday night we went out to a Comedy Night with a few friends which was an awesome thigh slapping night consisting of tears of laughter, belly holding cackles, wine spitting hilarity……. One of the best nights of comedy I have been to.

The next day, a few of us went to a chocolate shop for breakfast. Eggs with a side of chocolate croissant? Hells YES! Then we went to see Argo which is an incredible film of which I recommend you go and see tonight! Then….. I took Tom on a date on the Singapore Flyer! A lovely night in our own capsule with our very waiter and the hugest lamb shank I have ever had the pleasure of smashing down! Oh, and the started was a caeser salad, so my man had to eat his greens. Perfect!

YAY! Together @ the Comedy Club!

We also tried out a French bistro and did some Christmas shopping on Orchard Rd.  So nice to spend quality time with my man on an island which actually has streetlights at night……. I have to blog about Dili, but I feel so terrible taking photos there…. Perhaps I need to eat some concrete and harden up. I will be back there in December….. It has to be done……
